Mit Dagie Brundert, poetic filmmaker, queen of biodevelopment of films.
Get to know Super 8. Film in black and white, develop it yourself. Cameras, film material, development & scanning, drinks are included in the workshop price. Venue: click & show - the analog gallery, Gartenstrasse 2, 10115 Berlin. Friday/Saturday/Sunday 11-13 April 2025. Maximum 10 participants.
Day 1
Meeting, drinking coffee, Super 8 and (alternative) development history, a short introduction to how a camera works, getting to know development options, how a short film is made? Where can you get films? What about laboratories? Watching example films - and then we're off: We film a spontaneous group film (a Super 8 cassette contains 15 meters of film = 3.5 minutes) together and then develop it in the mother of all biodevelopers: Caffenol!
Day 2
Freestyle day. We meet and discuss ideas, go through the different cameras again and then two people each get a camera and a film, which they either film together or one after the other completely freely! In the meantime, you can collect development ingredients (flowers, herbs, etc.), which we then cook on the 3rd day.
Day 3
Development day: We develop all the films together in various organic soups: Caffenol, self-collected herbs, flowers, coffee, beer, tea. In the afternoon all the films are finished, we watch them together on the projector and drink the rest of the coffee / beer ;-)
All films will be digitized later. Everyone will receive their own film and the group film to download and process further.
The topics:
What cameras are there and how do they work?
Old and new film material, how is it exposed and what is actually available on the market?
How is a short film created, how can I implement my little idea?
Intuition, chance and fun in the game
spontaneous filming in small groups
Which lab still develops films and how can I develop them myself?
What is the mysterious “Caffenol” all about?
How do I brew a developer soup, what ingredients do I need and why does it work so well?
What happens after development, how do I get a digital copy for further processing?
No previous knowledge is required!
The workshop languages are English and German.
