Character
The Ilford Ortho Plus 80 is a low-sensitivity, orthochromatic black-and-white film with particularly fine grain, high sharpness, and pronounced detail reproduction. Originally developed for high-resolution reproductions, it is also suitable for classic photography.
Unlike conventional panchromatic black-and-white films, Ortho Plus reacts exclusively to blue and green light. Red and orange tones are therefore rendered significantly darker, leading to a characteristic tonal distribution and a stronger separation of certain colors.
In daylight, the film is exposed at ISO 80; for artificial light, Ilford recommends ISO 40. Development is carried out using conventional black-and-white chemistry. Due to its lack of red sensitivity, the film can be processed under suitable dark red darkroom lighting.
Typical applications
Landscape photography, architecture, portraits with characteristic tonal reproduction, still life, reproduction photography, and experimental black-and-white photography.
