Character
Ilford Ortho Plus 80 is a low-sensitivity orthochromatic black-and-white film with particularly fine grain, high sharpness and excellent detail reproduction. Originally developed for high-resolution reproduction, it is also suitable for classic photography.
Unlike conventional panchromatic black-and-white films, Ortho Plus responds exclusively to blue and green light. Red and orange tones are therefore rendered significantly darker, leading to a characteristic tonal distribution and greater separation of certain colors.
In daylight, the film is exposed at ISO 80, while Ilford recommends ISO 40 in artificial light. It is developed using standard black-and-white chemistry. Due to its lack of red sensitivity, the film can be processed under suitable dark red darkroom lighting.
Typical Applications
Landscape photography, architecture, portraits with characteristic tonal reproduction, still life, reproduction photography and experimental black-and-white photography.
