special features
Analogue work with film and manual cameras can open up creative scope for digital photographers and make the craftsmanship of photography more understandable. Monika Andrae and Chris Marquardt, the operators of absolutanalog.de, have taken this path themselves and share their knowledge and experiences in this book.
They wrote it for all curious people who enjoy rediscovering photography in 35mm, medium or even large format. Andrae and Marquardt explain in detail which films you use for which purpose, what you need to consider when buying a used camera, how to develop black and white film at home, scan the negatives, print them out as photos and present them appropriately. They also tell you everything you need to know about manual exposure measurement, the contrast behavior of films, different development processes, correct archiving and how to use your smartphone to measure exposure and development time.
Whether you want to shed digital ballast and concentrate more on photography itself, whether you want to further develop your technical skills or are looking for inspiration for your digital work - with this book you will delve deeply and practically into analogue photography.
Author Monika Andrae has been dedicated to photography since the early 1990s. As a student, she spent a lot of time in the darkroom to document the results of her photo forays in silver. After her late switch to digital photography in 2005, she worked exclusively in ones and zeros for a few years until she fell in love with film again in 2010. It is important to her to make the increasingly technical world of photography a little less tech-obsessed. That is why she is trying to make the world a little more creative with her podcast ≫Monis Motivklingel≪. She produces other podcasts and organizes workshops on analog photography with Chris Marquardt.
Co-author Chris Marquardt is a photographer and co-founder of the ≫Happy Shooting≪ photo podcast. On his photo trips around the world, he teaches interested people about photography in exciting surroundings. Together with Monika Andrae, he has repeatedly taken photographers to all three base camps of Mt. Everest on the highest photo workshop in the world. True to his maxim ≫You don't learn to ride a bike from books≪, his events are geared towards understanding. Chris Marquardt also produces the English-language show ≫Tips from the Top Floor≪, where he answers photography questions for an international audience and discusses his views on photography. As ≫Photo Guy≪, he explains photography to millions of American viewers every weekend on Leo Laporte's ≫Tech Guy Radio Show≪.
