Technical data
These are the topics:
Nikon, Nizo or Beaulieu?
So which one is the best? Film professional Zach Moore from New York reports on which Super 8 camera he chose after extensive testing. And, as always, with QR codes that lead directly to the film examples.
Young Super 8 star from Ukraine
A man flees Ukraine to continue doing what he loves most in Berlin: shooting films and videos. Recently, he's also been shooting on Super 8. And he does it effortlessly and brilliantly, even though it was Artem Shapirenko's first time with this format.
Old 8mm film star from Ukraine
Another also comes from Ukraine: Yakov Bogolpolsky, alias Boolsky, alias Bolsey. As a Jew of Russian descent, he becomes a citizen of the world. First, he goes to Switzerland, later immigrating to the USA. He invents cameras everywhere: Bol, Bolex, Bolsey. We tell his life story with many prototypes that never made it to stores.
Snowboarding on Super 8
Wojciech Nieżychowski from Warsaw films adventures in the snow with a Beaulieu. His Polish Colombia Boys love snowboarding – and he's always there with them. Sometimes on the board, sometimes behind the camera, sometimes both.
When is the new one coming?
There are nice prototypes of Logmar and Yolk online, but still nothing concrete from Kodak. What are the chances of a new film camera in 16mm or Super 8 format? Work is progressing on at least one.
Three guys eastwards
A Western with an invisible horse. That's something only three crazy Super 8 filmmakers, Gunnar Grah, Andreas Kersten, and Florian Rau, could have dreamed up. They shot their Spaghetti Western parody in Brandenburg – on a newly invented Cinemascope imitation. The result is called "Eight Cans Westward."
Steven Spielberg gives narrow film a leading role
In the new feature film "The Fableman," which hits German cinemas in March, director Spielberg retraces his youth. And there's a lot of 8mm and 16mm filmmaking involved. We're showing stills from the film and offering quotes from the American veteran about his beginnings with narrow film.
News: Orwo, Andec, Deidesheim
A new lab in France, one in Australia, a couple traveling to explore Super 8, competitions, changes at Andec, strange things from Orwo. And a look ahead to our Deidesheim, the film fair par excellence.
